Seitel designs, markets, and executes new seismic surveys for leading oil and gas exploration companies. We also purchase existing surveys from other companies. Combined, these create one of the largest seismic databases in the United States, with over 45,000 square miles of 3D data and over 616,000 linear miles of 2D data.
Seitel’s acquisition team works with customers and subcontractors to determine survey scope, feasibility, financing, and then acquisition of new seismic data. The acquisition process has many steps including permitting, coordination with land-owners, surveying, gear layout, recording, data retrieval and seismic processing to create a usable product.
Seitel’s data processing division uses robust applications and hardware to create and update seismic data products:
Support of the acquisition process in the timely creation of seismic data products based on raw field data.
Creating merges of multiple 3D surveys to create a seamless product across individual surveys.
